This series introduces conic sections, the family of curves you get by slicing a cone. You will learn to recognize circles, ellipses, parabolas, and hyperbolas from their equations and find their key points, called foci. These curves show up in satellite dishes, bridges, headlights, and the orbits of planets. It is a precalculus topic that builds on graphing and algebra. You should be comfortable with Algebra 2, including completing the square.
