The Ella Baker Center for Human Rights is a nonprofit organization based in Oakland, California, organizing to shift resources away from prisons and punishment towards opportunities that make our communities safe, healthy, and strong. Named after civil rights hero Ella Baker, we mobilize Black, Brown, and low-income people to build power. For 30 years, we have worked from the grassroots to the legislative level to free our people from state violence and mass incarceration. We are incredibly grateful for our inside community who help us advocate for freedom, prison closure, and relief for all incarcerated folks across California.
Please, be advised that the majority of our resources only apply to those sentenced in the state of California and serving time in California state prisons and jails. We do not currently have the resources or capacity to serve individuals in other states. We would like to refer you to the “Legal Resources” section where you can find a National Legal Resources List that may help guide you to organizations that can better assist you.
