Beyond the Bars Interviews with Humans of San Quentin

Beyond the Bars is a powerful interview series that offers a platform for formerly incarcerated individuals to share their reentry journeys. We select interviewees who wrote to Humans of San Quentin while incarcerated, and these post-release interviews are meant to serve as a follow-up. These candid conversations explore what it was like to return to society, the choices they’ve faced, the fears they’ve carried, and how they’re doing today. Many also share words of wisdom and encouragement for those still inside, awaiting their own second chance.
