Baroque Period: Art History Videos

This series introduces the Baroque period, a time in the 1600s when European art became bold, dramatic, and full of motion. You will see work by Velazquez, including his famous Las Meninas, along with Rubens, Poussin, and Ribera. The paintings range from grand royal scenes to quiet images of peasant family life. Baroque artists used light and shadow to create powerful emotion.
